Kate has fifteen years experience working in the humanitarian sector and has a specialist interest in humanitarian protection and displacement. She was field-based for eight years in Albania, Afghanistan, Ethiopia andTimor Leste working with international NGOs. Kate has also been deployed on short term assignments as a protection specialist to response operations including Sri Lanka, Kenya and Indonesia. Since 2012 Kate has been based in Melbourne as a founding Director of Humanitarian Advisory Group. Kate has specific expertise in protection mainstreaming and led the inter-agency initiative to develop Minimum Inter-agency Standards for Protection Mainstreaming (2012) and co-authored an article on usefulness of standards for protection mainstreaming.
Kate has expertise in training material design and delivery and led the development of the Global Protection Cluster Training Package on Protection Mainstreaming in 2014. Other recent work includes participation on the team that undertook the evaluation of Australia’s response to the Syria crisis. Kate has a Master of Human Rights Law and a Master of International Development.
