Special interest areas

The challenging task of ensuring people are protected and their human rights upheld is a major concern for affected populations, governments, humanitarians, and others operating in crisis and disaster. We’re interested in navigating the myriad definitions, approaches, priorities and perspectives, and finding the right form of protective action for you and your organisation to implement.

Civil-military interaction

Responses to complex emergencies over the last decade have seen an increase in the friction between political/military agendas and the adherence to humanitarian principles. Understanding notions around ‘humanitarian space’, how and why mandates differ, and how (or if) humanitarian and military/police actors should interact is critical to delivering effective humanitarian assistance. Whether it’s at the policy, strategic or operational level, we are interested in strengthening situational awareness and interaction through analysis, research, simulations and training.
