Kate is a leading contributor to the humanitarian sector in Australia and the region. She has spent over twenty years in operational and leadership roles in international organisations, including eight years field-based in humanitarian contexts. Kate has a specialist interest in areas of humanitarian protection, diversity and inclusion. She is passionate about using evidence to improve humanitarian action and has technical expertise in research, evaluations, training and facilitation. Her in country experience includes long term humanitarian positions in Albania, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Timor Leste and short term assignments to responses in Democratic Republic of Congo, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Indonesia.
Since 2012 Kate has been based in Melbourne as a founding Director of Humanitarian Advisory Group. Kate has led several evaluations of humanitarian response operations including evaluations of Australia’s humanitarian assistance in Syria, Myanmar and Vanuatu as well as global evaluations and reviews such as the Transforming Surge project evaluation for the START Network. Kate has authored research reports on diversity and inclusion in the sector as well as protection and localisation. She has supported the technical guidance documents for protection including the Global Protection Cluster Training Package on Protection Mainstreaming (2014), and the Sphere Handbook Protection Principles (2018).
Kate was selected as one of Australia’s top 100 Women of Influence in 2015 and was awarded the Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal by the Australian Government in 2016. Kate has a Master of Human Rights Law and a Master of International Development.
