Jo-Hannah Lavey

Jo-Hannah is a humanitarian professional experienced in policy, innovation and community engagement, passionate about delivering better outcomes for people affected by crises. She draws on more than 15 years’ experience in management, policy and operational roles in Australia, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the US. Jo-Hannah has led drafting of Australia’s foremost humanitarian policies, including its previous humanitarian action policy and protection in humanitarian action framework. She has advised the Australian Government’s Mission to the UN on humanitarian issues during its time on the UN Security Council, managed multi-million dollar partnerships and contributed to global policy development in roles with the United Nations.

Jo-Hannah’s operational background with United Nations and NGOs includes designing, establishing and managing country-level response teams and programs delivering cash for work, conflict sensitivity and do no harm, humanitarian accountability and community engagement, mobile feedback mechanisms, and implementing multi-donor grant funds. Before re-joining Humanitarian Advisory Group in 2018, Jo-Hannah specialised in technology for development at DFAT’s innovationXchange, working to identify and scale transformative solutions to intractable development problems using technology with leading private sector and academic organisations including Google, Atlassian and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Jo-Hannah has a Master of International Law.
