Seeta Giri

Regional Advisor | Asia

Seeta Giri has worked progressively, for over twenty years, in various policy advisory and programme management positions with the United Nations and INGOs. She comes with a comprehensive background in the field of Climate Change Adaptation, Crisis Response and Recovery.  Seeta has over ten years of field-based experience leading post-crisis response and recovery with the United Nations in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Serbia, Sierra Leone and Nepal. Building on this hands-on experience in humanitarian response and recovery, she has contributed to UNDP’s corporate Crisis Response packages and capacity development of UNDP staff.  Seeta has contributed to several technical studies and publications – Drawing on Our Diversity: Humanitarian Leadership (HAG/2018); Nepal Post Flood Recovery Needs Assessment (Government of Nepal/2017); Ebola Recovery Assessment (Government of Sierra Leone/2015); Lessons learned from 2015 Nepal Earthquakes; Bangladesh Disaster Management Lessons Learned Study (2005 to 2015; Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Government of Bangladesh). 

Seeta recently completed two and half year assignment as Recovery Advisor with UNDP Nepal and led UNDP’s post-earthquake recovery support to the Government of Nepal. Seeta is currently serving as a member to the Advisory Board of the Culture and Disaster Action Network (CADAN). Seeta has a special interest in humanitarian-development nexus and resilience building in post-crisis response and recovery efforts. Seeta has a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development and PhD in Natural Resources Management.
